Each week, I search for ideas to write about. Most ideas come from the readers themselves, but every now and then, I find a new fitness product or idea I think could be beneficial to everyone. Many of the program developers I interview claim they have the total fitness solution, though they actually lack some of the key components of fitness. I define total fitness as strength training, aerobic training, core strength training and flexibility.

I saw a new product when I stayed in a Marriott Hotel. The hotel chain recently introduced a new, in-room fitness program, and they offer the BodyRev F.A.S.T. program. I liked it. When I saw the F.A.S.T. (functional, aerobic, strength training) principle, I thought this very well may be the next generation of fitness.

I found that the BodyRev was developed by a former Navy SEAL. The BodyRev is a two-handed rotating weight and was used in a study that focused on increased injuries to military members during their fitness training. The study found that repetitive exercises using heavy free weights placed extreme stress on joints and isolated muscles. The BodyRev weight, using two hands, offers greater control during exercises, and the F.A.S.T. program gives an all-around workout in an hour. Having the muscles and heart function together will help sustain lifelong strength and fitness; hence, functional aerobic strength training (F.A.S.T.).

In a 12-week clinical study, participants in the BodyRev program lost 30% body fat and dropped four clothing sizes. Participants also burned an extra 150 calories per day with the weight-loss program. Workouts like this eliminate the jarring of joints that can happen with free weights. The system is designed to engage the entire body at once, so you're lengthening and toning while revving up your heart rate at the same time.

I will incorporate the BodyRev into some of my workouts and will soon offer this product on StewSmith.com and at the Military.com Fitness Store. For now, you can see the product at www.bodyrev.com.
