Pokemon cards from the upcoming Pokemon TCG Mega Dream ex set are already selling online for hundreds of dollars, despite the fact that they haven't released yet. The situation is just one of the recent examples of Pokemon TCG scalping being arguably out of control.

Pokemon TCG Mega Dream ex is set to release on November 28 in Japan, and players are excitedly looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it seems that some are capitalizing on this excitement by offering listings for cards that may potentially be found in the set before they're even out.

With weeks left until buyers can actually acquire the set, the Pokemon TCG Mega Dream ex chase card Mega Gengar ex #240 is selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay. At the time of publication, there are several listings available for sale, with most starting in the low $600 range. Based on the eBay search, four listings have already sold for these inflated prices, with the cheapest going for $660 (plus over $100 in shipping) and the most expensive approaching a full grand at $900. While it's not unheard of for rare Pokemon TCG cards to sell for way more than this, the issue with these listings is that the set isn't out yet, so the sellers don't actually have the cards in-hand.

Pre-selling items on eBay also isn't uncommon, but it becomes more problematic when a seller acquiring the item in question is a matter of chance and not a guarantee. These sellers have listed the Gengar card on the presumption that they'll get it when the set launches, likely indicating that they've already secured numerous booster packs or boxes, and are banking on the odds that they'll be able to grab one of the cards from those packs. Sellers like these are likely contributing to the increased demand for Pokemon cards, making it harder for players to grab a pack for themselves.
