Survival horror game Pacific Drive has surprisingly come to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox on PC, with the base game available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. The game arrives alongside its new paid DLC, the Whispers in the Woods expansion. While the launch of Whispers in the Woods came without warning across all available platforms, the unexpected porting of Pacific Drive to Xbox Series X|S and its instant inclusion on the Game Pass subscription service are a special pre-Halloween treat for subscribers.

Pacific Drive's Biggest Update Yet Adds Tons of New Content

First launched in February 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC, the survival horror game developed by Ironwood Studios came with an unconventional approach to gameplay that has earned it some high respect among horror fans. Pacific Drive's sales topped one million units sold within its first year of availability on its launch platforms, and its quality of gameplay earned it a nomination for Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards in 2024.

Now, Pacific Drive's unique survival horror experience is available for the first time on Xbox, and the base game has been added as a shadow drop for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. This expands the list of day-one Game Pass games for October 2025. Pitting the player against supernatural dangers while navigating through the fictitious Olympic Exclusion Zone of the Pacific Northwest region, their main sources of solace and protection are the station wagon that serves as their primary mode of transportation and the auto shop where they can more safely make repairs. Keeping the car in a good state of repair is essential, as explorable junctions start to collapse after too much time spent there, adding elements of suspenseful time management to an already harrowing journey.

The Whispers in the Woods expansion was first revealed via a trailer in September, but no exact release date was provided at that time. Now, it has arrived with the release of Pacific Drive's version 1.11.0, and it is available to purchase across all platforms. Whispers in the Woods provides a new fully voiced storyline, a new map, and some additional gameplay features for Pacific Drive, including more types of anomalies and additional car parts, items, and cosmetics.

The unexpected inclusion on Xbox's signature game subscription service may help to win over some players that Microsoft has lost over the past few weeks. Following the new $30 monthly price for a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which went into effect at the start of October, so many former fans rushed to unsubscribe that it reportedly crashed Game Pass's website. However, the price hike also arrived amid the addition of 48 new games, with many of them coming from Game Pass's new deal with Ubisoft+.
