Heads up! Applications for The Mission Continues' third annual mass deployment, Operation Watts Is Worth It, are due March 30. The annual mass deployment is an intense, week-long service project in the Watts area run by The Mission Continues and they're seeking 80 veterans from around the country to participate.

The Mission Continues describes a mass deployment this way: “A Mass Deployment mobilizes veterans from across the country alongside local partners and volunteers in a single city over the course of a week-long project. We select cities with a need for revitalization and the potential for sustainable growth, ensuring our efforts and resources have a visible impact within the communities we serve.”

First-timers to a mass deployment are referred to as “Crew Members” and veterans of previous mass deployments are called “Ambassadors.” This year’s Operation Watts Is Worth It deployment will take place from June 21-28 in Los Angeles.

"Our Mass Deployments are exciting opportunities for veterans to create immediate and sustainable impact for our community of focus. Veteran volunteers who deploy with The Mission Continues are empowered through personal growth and connection to others, as they tackle pressing community issues and effect positive change,” said Spencer Kympton, President of The Mission Continues.

Crew members must be a U.S. military veteran (active duty, guard and reservists will also be considered), must be a U.S. resident on one of The Mission Continues 40 metro areas, and must be available for the entire week of the program.

If you’re wondering what happens on the mass deployment in Watts, here a super cool video:

Why Watts? Well we asked that same question. Watts is a still a community in transition and like many others, resources are spread thin. But residents and community leaders are eager to keep improving Watts and with the help of a few good veterans (that’s you), they have the ability to focus on the projects that need to get done and will only get done with the help of volunteers (again, that’s you).

If you are selected, The Mission Continues will arrange and cover costs related to Mass Deployment travel and accommodations for the Crew and Ambassadors selected to participate. Or if you aren’t selected but you live in the Los Angeles area, you can still help out with individual projects without having to attend the full week.
