Big Changes Coming to 'World of Tanks'

It's been over seven years since World of Tanks launched it 2010 and Wargaming just announced Update 1.0, coming in March. The update will overhaul the game's technological plumbing with an advanced CORE graphics engine.

That update will allow the game designers to update over 25 World of Tanks maps to meet modern graphical standards. Those maps will also get audio improvements thanks to dynamic music, authentic soundtracks, and atmospheric ambience.

“Update 1.0 is a true game-changer,” said Milos Jerabek, World of Tanks Development Director. “Though the spirit of the game remains the same, the introduction of the new graphics engine leads to a far greater boost in image fidelity than a simple resolution increase. It’s a staggering difference from the game as you know it, and we can’t wait for players to get hands-on with it.”

Of course, change = controversy on the internet. Some will freak out because everything looks and sounds different, no matter that the new look and feel is much better. Others will fret that their aging PC won't handle the updated software. Wargaming has thankfully addressed that concern with enCore 2018, a special program that gives players a little hands-on time with the new visuals and music. With the help of enCore, everyone can replay battle videos and check how the overhauled game will perform on their game station.

Change is always a risk and the improvements to World of Tanks will be an earthquake in the MMO shooter games. Check out actual images from the game below. The in-game visuals are stunning. Even just a couple of years ago, it would be unimaginable that this kind of detail would be available in a real-time online video game.
