Ryan Gosling has teamed with noted Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo to bring author Mark Greaney's "The Gray Man" series to the screen. "The Gray Man," based on Greaney's 2010 novel, is set to premiere in theaters on July 15, 2022, before streaming on Netflix a week later on July 22.

Gosling plays lethal special operator Court Gentry, a government-trained killer who grew up on gun ranges but somehow managed to avoid military service when he's recruited by the CIA to become its only team member who's not a spec ops veteran.

In "The Gray Man," Gentry has left the CIA, and he's being hunted down by Lloyd Hansen, a slightly unhinged former colleague now working for a foreign government determined to take the Gray Man off the board. Evans sports an outrageous trash 'stache and stiff brush cut as Hansen in the movie.

Netflix has released a scene from the movie that shows Gentry and Hansen in hand-to-hand combat, with a few random agents taken out during the fight.

At the end of this clip, Gentry is bailed out by agent Dani Miranda. Fans of the book might be confused at seeing a new character created for the movie, but it's hard to imagine how the Russo brothers could've made a movie with Gentry as a pure lone wolf who never interacts with anyone. It's hard to put an internal monologue on film. The good news is that Miranda is played by Ana de Armas, who proved her action movie chops in the best scenes from the most recent James Bond movie, "No Time to Die."

At a time when thriller novel series about characters like Jack Ryan, Jack Reacher, Harry Bosch and former SEAL James Reece (in the upcoming "The Terminal List") seem to be shifting to television, it's good to see someone taking a real shot at a new movie series that lets audiences enjoy a story in two-hour chunks.
