    During World War II, Carroll Glines served as an instructor pilot, squadron and group commander. He made a career of the Air Force, serving in such places as Europe, Panama and Alaska before retiring from active duty as a Colonel in 1968. Author of more than 35 books and 750 magazine articles, he penned the definitive accounts of the Doolittle Raiders. In retirement, he could always be found wherever the Raiders gathered. He was fully accepted as one of their own, holding the title of Honorary Raider and Raider Historian. Glines passed away in his home in Dallas, Texas on January 14, 2016.
