The Heroism of William Pinckney

    William Pinckney's new headstone is unveiled at the Beaufort National Cemetery Feb. 10. Pinckney carried his shipmate to safety after an attack on the USS Enterprise during World War II. Pinckney was the second African American Sailor to receive the Navy Cross for his actions. The destroyer USS Pinckney is named after him. (DVIDS)
