Emergency personnel rushed to the airport this afternoon [May 29] after a U.S. navy plane notified Bermuda that they would be diverting to the island to make an emergency landing as one engine had failed. BFRS Lieutenant Jay Donawa said that it was not commercial airline, but a US Navy P-3 Orion with approximately 15 people onboard. He said the pilot called in and asked for assistance. The plane had lost power in the #4 engine, and had approximately six hours of fuel left. Local personnel provided a standby response, and the aircraft landed safely at 4.05pm.
