With warmer weather on the way, more motorcycle riders will be cruising the nation's highways. Whether you're on a motorcycle or behind the wheel of a car, it's everyone's responsibility to safely share the road.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reminds drivers that motorcycles have the same rights and privileges as any other motor vehicle. Give riders plenty of space in traffic — don't try to share the lane. Always stay alert at intersections; motorcycles can be harder to see than cars.
As for the riders themselves, the NHTSA says it's important that they help make themselves visible to other motorists by not riding in a car's blind spot and by using turn signals for every turn or lane change. Wearing the right type of helmet — one that's approved by the Transportation Department — can also make a huge difference in rider safety.
