Military families are always on the go, but travel is expensive. Before booking that flight, keep in mind that not only can you fly Space-A, but many airlines also offer military discounts on airfare and baggage fees. For instance, Southwest offers airfare discounts. Alaska Airlines, Allegiant and American Airlines offer baggage fee discounts. And Delta and JetBlue offers discounts on both airfare and baggage.

3. Hotels

If you're traveling, you're probably going to need a hotel to stay in. If lodging on base isn't an option, look into the long list of hotels that offer military discounts, including Best Western, Hilton and IHG Hotels & Resorts.

7. Groceries

Grocery bills don't stop during a government shutdown. And while you may be able to get creative with the food you already have in your pantry and freezer, you'll need to buy more at some point. At Sam's Club, you can join as a new member for 55% off club membership. Costco offers new members a $30 digital Costco shop card. And Fred Meyer offers a 10% military discount. (Some Fred Meyer locations offer the military discount on specific dates, so call your local store to ask when the discount is available.)
