The U.S. Army has fired the two-star general who commanded the service's Combined Arms Support Command.

Major Gen. Paul C. Hurley Jr. has been relieved from all duties at the Fort Lee, Virginia command and is "the subject of an official investigation," Col. Michael Indovina, chief of public affairs for Army's Training and Doctrine Command, said in an email statement.

Army Times first reported Hurley's firing.

Indovina would not comment on the reason Hurley is under investigation, according to the statement.

"The commander of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command has relieved Maj. Gen. Hurley due to a loss of confidence in his ability to effectively command," Indovina said.

According to his official biography, Hurley received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Texas A&M University in 1986. He has previously served as battalion commander for the 47th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Armored Division in Baghdad, Iraq; as commanding general for 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 8th United States Army in South Korea; and as commanding general for 1st Theater Sustainment Command in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Hurley also deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm as a staff officer.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the Ranger Tab; Combat Action Badge; Senior Parachutist Badge; and Air Assault Badge.

Combined Arms Support Command oversees the Army's sustainment machine. It's responsible for the training and leader development of the support personnel and also in charge of writing new requirements and doctrine designed to make support operations run more effectively, according to the command's website.

Brig. Gen. Douglas McBride, Jr., who is currently the quartermaster commandant for Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, will serve as the interim commander, Indovina said.
