Police in New York were searching for a former Navy SEAL and Afghan war veteran Tuesday after he skipped bail on a 2015 arrest on assault and other charges, the LI Herald reported.

Nathanael “Lalo” Roberti, 33, was arrested during an April 2015 altercation in Long Beach, N.Y. and faced charges of assault, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was released on $1,000 bail but failed to appear at a recent court date at Nassau County Criminal Court.

Roberti “repeatedly” threatened police officers who responded to the dispute at the time, but authorities would not comment further on the incident.

Police made the initial announcement Monday that they were searching for Roberti, Long Beach Patch reported.

Roberti has brown hair, brown eyes and a tattoo sleeve on his left arm, police told the paper.

Authorities stressed that the public use caution if approaching Roberti, who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 230 pounds.

While overseas in 2005, Roberti participated in a major rescue mission in Afghanistan, the Herald reported. He was later awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Roberti wrote in 2014 that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

In 2013, he recounted to NPR that he had trouble adjusting to civilian life in the United States. “I pulled a knife on four individuals, that’s why I ended up in front of a judge,” he told the outlet. “We’d come back from these deployments, and I just felt like, I cannot relate to anybody in the United States.”

Roberti is also the founder LALO Tactical, a California-based footwear company, Patch reported.

Anyone with information on Roberti and his whereabouts are asked to call the Long Beach, N.Y. Police Department at (516) 431-1800. Beside New York, he previously lived in California and Virginia, police said.

Long Beach is located on Long Island, about 30 miles east of New York City.
