More On Military Casualties

The soldier killed in Afghanistan on Monday has been identified as Army Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Griffin.

The news of this latest American casualty comes after peace negotiations broke down a week ago.

Resolute Support officials said one of the military members was from the United States and the other was from Romania.

It's the deadliest year for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since 2014.

He had hoped to become a Marine aviation mechanic.

Master Sgts. Luis F. Deleon-Figueroa, 31, and Jose J. Gonzalez, 35, died in combat in Faryab province, Afghanistan.

U.S. officials stressed that the investigation will look into all possible causes of death, not just friendly fire.

The Defense Department has identified a Marine Raider killed in Iraq while supporting the joint mission to defeat ISIS.

The incident is under investigation, according to the Department of Defense.

This year's casualty count now matches the total for 2018, previously the deadliest year for Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
