How to Blow Up a Speeding Van, According to Ang Lee's 'Gemini Man'

Will Smith plays two versions of the same hitman in director Ang Lee's "Gemini Man," out on Digital HD on Dec. 23, just in time for Christmas viewing.

Henry Brogan (Smith) is retired from the life when he finds himself on the run after a younger hitman tries to take him out. To his shock, he eventually learns that the new guy is actually a clone of himself.

Lee remains fascinated with the most cutting-edge technology he can get his hands on, and "Gemini Man" is his latest attempt to push the special effects envelope. Not only does he use the de-aging software on Smith to great effect, he manages to have the actor's two characters confront each other on-screen.

Still, old-fashioned practical effects are always welcome. We've got a behind-the-scenes clip of the movie's Glennville Sequence and get to see how a real van gets blown up with (carefully placed) real explosives in one of the movie's most exciting chase scenes.

The movie will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Jan. 14; the 4K will be released in 60 frames-per-second (versus the standard 24FPS) format with Dolby Vision. For all you hardcore home theater owners, this marks the first time a home video release has been offered in 60FPS and Dolby Vision.

The digital release is also available in Dolby Vision, and both feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack "remixed specifically for the home to place audio anywhere in the room, including overhead."

Lee's previous movie, "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," holds up as one of the most visually interesting movies of the last few years, and "Gemini Man" continues his experimentation with next-generation movie formats.

Even if the plot description doesn't draw you in, don't be fooled: "Gemini Man" is never a bore to watch.
