‘The Battle of Jangsari’ Offers a Korean Take on the Mid-Century Conflict

South Korean war movie "The Battle of Jangsari" is set for release on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on January 28th, and we've got a first look at the movie's trailer.

The movie's real stars are Kim Myung-min (from the "Detective K" movies) and Choi Min-ho (K-pop boy band SHINee) but, since the filmmakers know that they need some Americans to get you to watch it, they've added Megan Fox ("Transformers") and George Eads ("CSI," the new "MacGyver") to the cast.

The movie takes place in 1950 during the Battle of Incheon when 772 student soldiers staged a diversionary action at Jangsari beach to distract North Korean troops from the action at Incheon. Poorly armed and with little food, the inexperienced fighters aim to turn the tide of war.

Fox plays a journalist who wants to tell the world about the brave young men. Eads is the American officer who insists on keeping the mission classified. Since the filmmakers weren't working with a giant budget, they focus on close-quarters fighting in the trenches.

We don't know enough about the Americans who fought in Korea, and we certainly know far less about the South Koreans who resisted communist aggression. "The Battle of Jangsari" aims to be a first step in correcting that mistake.
