Calling all urban snipers: Vertx has advised that their new Overwhites are in stock and available. The Vertx Overwhite Suit is an extremely lightweight and packable camouflage system (a 2-piece set) unique to the tactical market. Though they are designed to be donned over whatever the shooter is already wearing, these are not the old military pull-overs and smocks you’d wear with Mickey Mouse boots. They’re unique and far more ubiquitous than you would think, too – and you don’t have to be crawling in the winter to use them, and you may find them very effective within the confines of a city.
As it turns out, although originally designed for snow and ice environments, the Overwhites have evolved into something more than, well, Overwhites. Their white-and-gray pattern is very well suited for a variety of urban environments, particularly high light-colored positions. At least one major metropolitan police agency has put them into the field for rooftop counter-sniper positions (see staged photos recreating their field use) and found them to be an excellent alternative to lying there in OD/MC/Blue/Black.
The greatest advantage to the Overwhites is probably their portability. You can literally shrink them down with a compression sack to something smaller than a one-gallon Ziploc bag. Throw them in a BDU pocket, in a ruck, a side pocket of a shooter’s drag bag, etc.
The Vertx Overwhites are made of 2-oz./sq. yd. 100 Polyester – Duro / Stealth PXL® Snow Camouflage. The jacket closes with a 2-way zipper center front and the pants with a 2-button and Velcro fly. The jacket has pit-zips and both the jacket and trousers have pass-throughs to reach equipment or garments below. There are full-size cargo pockets on the pants, elasticized hems on leg and sleeve and bungee pull cords on the hood and waist.
If you’re a fan of Where’s Waldo, feel free to look for the Vertx logo in the camo print.
Note: the rifle drape you see in the photos will be available shortly. Watch their web page or Facebook for that announcement.
