After a week of doom and gloom for the military-industrial complex, along with lots of charts and projections about things that may or may not come true -- here are a few of the stories we didn't get a chance to write about.

• POLITICO predicts an "ugly fall" as defense advocates battle it out with deficit hawks over the work of the Super Congress.

• Bloomberg reports America's missile defense program could wind up costing more than the Apollo program, but thanks to its political connections, it appears safe from budget cuttery for now.

• John writes at Defense Tech that the Army is going to field some robo-Jeeps over in Afghanistan.

• In a week of extensive, thorough discussion about its littoral combat ship program -- which hasn't turned out the way the brass initially hoped it would -- the Navy announced the start of fabrication on its sixth ship, the USS Jackson.

• Christian has a story about a new rifle that its manufacturer says corrects many of the issues with today's M4s.

• Who knew the Marine Corps was turning into a dating service these days? DoDLive has a story about how a single squadron from out at Camp Pendleton, Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, the "Stingers," includes three married couples! And they're all deployed together in Afghanistan! This has upsides and downsides.
