You may have heard that Tricare open season, also known as open enrollment, is beginning soon. But just what exactly is Tricare open season?

Tricare open season is an annual event that allows you to make changes to your Tricare coverage for the upcoming year. Every year, open season runs from the Monday of the second full week in November to the Monday of the second full week in December. That means that this year's open season runs from Nov. 9 through Dec. 14, 2020.

Also during this open season, members will be able to make changes to their Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) insurance.

This marks the second year that Tricare has required members to make changes to their health insurance coverage only during open season or after a Qualifying Life Event. Since the event is fairly new, the folks at Tricare will be holding an online event explaining the different Tricare programs, levels of coverage, eligibility, procedures for switching programs and more.

If you're happy with your current Tricare coverage you don't need to do anything during open season, if you do nothing your current coverage will remain the same in the upcoming year.

To help beneficiaries understand what Tricare plans they are eligible for, what changes they can make and which plans may be best for them and their families, an online webinar will be held from 1 - 2 p.m. EDT on Oct. 29.

"If you're looking to make a change to your current health, dental, or vision coverage, your chance to change your coverage is right around the corner," said Mark Ellis, who leads the policy and programs section of Tricare for the Defense Health Agency. "During the webinar, we'll discuss how you can participate in open season if you're eligible."

During the webinar you will be able to learn the differences between plans, like Tricare Select, Tricare Prime, and the US Family Health Plan (USFHP), learn how to compare plan features using the online Compare Plans Tool, and more. Attendees will be able to take part in a Question and Answer session at the end of the webinar.

Attendance is limited, registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Register today.
