Website reaches new heights in social media

McLean, Va – Military.com reached one million 'Likes' on Facebook on Saturday night, July 6 - a significant milestone for a site that has always focused on social forums.

The website has a strong social media presence on Facebook and on Twitter keeping fans and followers updated on military news and benefits information, jobs for veterans, and ways for the military community to connect online.

"One million 'Likes' on Facebook is a significant milestone for us," said T McCreary, President of Military.com and retired Navy Rear Admiral. "As a community website, we are always looking to extend our reach and provide information to our members. We've worked hard to ensure our social media destinations are valuable for anyone looking for information about the military."

Vivian Greentree, Director of Research and Policy for Blue Star Families, agreed saying, "In our recent Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey, Military.com was cited as one of the top three resources for military families to find information. We know that military families are increasingly getting their news and information from trusted, reliable online sources. As a result, we are not surprised that Military.com's popularity continues to grow within the military community."

"We've always focused on giving the audience places to exchange ideas, primarily through our discussion boards," said Military.com Editor Ward Carroll. "Our Facebook page has supplemented our other forums nicely and created another place for our readers to communicate with us and each other."

Military.com launched in 2000. Acquired by Monster Worldwide in 2004, additional focus was placed on veteran employment and resources for members about to transition to civilian life. Resources like the Military Skills Translator, GI Bill tools, and time-phased information to prepare servicemembers for their post military careers are easily accessible. Membership to the site is free. In addition, Military.com features the latest defense news, benefits information, military videos, education information and spouse and family updates.
