Online resource bridges the gap from military to the civilian world with personalized checklists to guide a servicemember through their transition
MCLEAN, Va – Military.com announced the launch of their online Military Transition Center today, which features revolutionary personalized checklists to guide a member through transition even before they begin their separation process from the military.
The Transition Center works simply, but effectively. Designed to be the first place a military member goes to plan their transition, members input their estimated separation date and will then receive scheduled email notifications with checklists to help them prepare for their exit from the military due to retirement, separation, or a move to the National Guard or reserves. The checklists not only help to ensure the member is on track for planning for their future, but provide valuable information on healthcare, benefits, relocation, translating military skills for potential civilian employers and resume writing assistance.
According to the Monster Veterans Talent Index, a snapshot of the current veteran hiring landscape, over one million veterans will enter civilian life over the next five years. That transition is a major life change which often includes a new job or second career, and the culture shock of going from military life to civilian life. Additionally, the Veterans Talent Index indicates that 75 percent of veterans are confident about the skills they bring to civilian workforce whereas only 39 percent of employers believe vets are appropriately prepared to compete for civilian jobs out of the military.

We built this tool to bridge the communication and cultural gap between the military and civilian worlds. That ‘no man’s land’ can be a difficult place to navigate. Veteran’s employment has been gaining national attention because of higher unemployment numbers and difficulty translating skills from the military to civilian sector. Servicemembers in transition receive cursory training for their move to civilian life and are often unprepared to write a civilian resume, have trouble networking with civilian peers, or simply cannot articulate to civilian employers why their military skill set would be a good fit for civilian jobs. The Military Transition Center, along with Monster and Military.com’s Veteran Employment Center, will address those issues and more while educating the servicemember about proper planning to make the leap to civilian life.
