The head of Army aviation is calling on the service to come up with ways to reduce a climbing pilot attrition rate. Nearly 10% of aviators are leaving the Army, according to a service release. Maj. Gen. William Gayler said recently that the Army needs to increase career incentive pay, a proposal under consideration by the service. Additional incentive pay — professional pay, or pro-pay — could also be available for achievement of certain milestones, such as becoming a pilot-in-command or test pilot. Another recommendation on the table is increasing the active-duty service obligation for new aviators from six to eight years, a practice already in use by other services. Read more at Army.mil.
